Evergreen is Saskatoon's newest neighbourhood on the east side of the river. This is another neighbourhood development spearheaded by the City of Saskatoon. The City of Saskatoon has made lots available for purchase via a "lot draw" to individuals, families and small builders. Residential construction began in 2010. Evergreen has an expected population of over 12,000 people when complete. The neighbourhood is named Evergreen because of the Scots Pine trees that were added to the landscaping of the area.
The plan is for Evergreen to be an "urban village" with various offering; a Village Centre that will be its own downtown area, Village Square inside the Village Centre designed for informal and formal events, a grand boulevard, commercial areas and a District Village with a mix of residential and commercial use. Saskatoon Light & Power has implemented an LED street-lighting system which will be more cost effective and more ecologically friendly.
Evergreen is still under development; therefore, there are no amenities immediately available. The University Heights Suburban Centre is close by with retail and business services.
