The neighbourhood of Sutherland is full of history. This once stand-alone town was incorporated into Saskatoon in the mid 1950s. Sutherland was a self-sufficient town with railway services, a post office, a curling rink, a school and a growing population. This community was named after William Charles Sutherland who was a prominent individual who served on Saskatoon's town council. The neighbourhood of Sutherland developed in spurts; houses were built in the early 1900s, then again in the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s.
Not only is this neighbourhood flush with its own retail services but you will find additional retail options at Preston Crossing as well as the many additional services found along Attridge Drive. Recreational options include Saskatoon Soccer Centre, Saskatoon Forestry Farm and Zoo and an off-leash dog park along the South Saskatchewan River.
