Wildwood neighbourhood is located in southeast Saskatoon. Over 7,500 residents are nestled between 8th Street East, Taylor Street, Circle Drive and McKercher Drive with many accessible amenities nearby. The neighbourhood was named after the already existing golf course, Wildwood Golf Course which is operated by the City of Saskatoon.
Before the Wildwood neighbourhood existed, the land was used as an operational dairy farm from 1880 and 1911. The Saskatoon Stock Car Racing Association then operated a racing oval between what is now known as Moss Avenue and McKercher Drive. Finally, the City of Saskatoon annexed the land which forced the Racing Association to move the racing oval in 1968.
The actual neighbourhood development began with residential construction in the early 1970s. The neighbourhood was complete with the 18-hole Wildwood golf course, two elementary school, a large shopping mall and a thriving 8th Street business community by the late 1970s. In 1989 the City of Saskatoon opened the Lakewood Civic Centre which was a desirable amenity to the surrounding neighbourhoods of Wildwood, Lakeview, Lakeridge, West College Park and East College Park. Lakewood Civic Centre is home to Cliff Wright Library as well as a sport and fitness facility (weight room, indoor pool, gymnasium, etc) and a park which includes soccer and football fields.
